Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean (85%) ground beef or lean (93%) ground turkey
  • 1 large onion, chopped (1 cup)
  • 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 large chipotle chile in adobo sauce, seeds removed, chopped (from 7oz can)
  • 1 teaspoon adobo sauce (from 7oz can)
  • 1 (15.5oz) can S&W® Kidney Beans (drained, rinsed)
  • 1 (15oz) can S&W® Black Beans (drained, rinsed)
  • 2 (15.5oz) cans S&W® Pinto Beans (drained, rinsed)
  • 1 (15oz) can tomato sauce
  • 1 (14.5oz) can fire roasted diced tomatoes (do not drain)
  • 1/2 cup water

Directions

In 4-quart saucepan or medium Dutch oven, cook ground beef, onion, garlic, chili powder, cumin, chipotle chile and adobo sauce over medium-high heat 5 to 7 minutes or until beef is thoroughly cooked. Add all remaining ingredients; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover. Simmer 15 minutes.

Serving Suggestions: Serve with cilantro, avocado and sour cream, if desired.

For Southwestern Loaded Potatoes, cut baked potatoes in half and mash the insides. Top with a scoop of the chili, shredded cheese, sour cream and chopped green onions.

Serve this smoky chili as a dip for tortilla chips.

Tip: For more smoky flavor, substitute 1 to 2 teaspoons chipotle chili powder for the regular chili powder. The heat level is much greater than the regular chili powder, so use less, until you reach your favorite heat level.
